A tasty snack Friday, 7pm

I head to Chinese Dumpling King, hidden away in the Lim Supermarket complex in Mount Albert. It’s great. Frozen dumplings are 60 for $15! 949 New North Rd, Mt Albert
Tunes and friends Friday, 9pm
Lowtide in St Kevins Arcade is one of the few places to make it through the recent gentrification of the strip. It’s a creative space and a music label, created by Josh Carvalho and Stefan Ozich. 183 Karangahape Rd
A short hike Saturday, 1pm
Every now and then it’s nice to escape the intensity of the city. We’re lucky to be surrounded by natural beauty. I like rugged west coast beaches, like Bethells and Whatipu. Pro tip: check out the 15-minute walk out by Whatipu Beach, it’ll give you a great view.

To town, for dinner Saturday, 7pm
It has to be Mukunda’s Kitchen for dinner. This Hare Krishna stalwart is 100 percent vegetarian, so right up my alley. It’s delicious and cheap. Meal one is my go-to, it gives you a taste of everything and includes a halva for dessert. 268 Karangahape Rd

On the grind (sort of!) Sunday, 10am
Sunday is the perfect day to make kombucha. Once a hobby, brewing booch has now become a little enterprise for me. It’s low intensity, and allows me time to do classic Sunday activities like reading and sunbathing.
Sunshine and jazz Sunday, 3pm
After logging some hours in the booch factory, I catch up with some friends at The Golden Dawn to enjoy some jazzy tunes. 134 Ponsonby Rd, Ponsonby
